Movie Screening on Gandhi Jayanti

              NSS organized the screening of the academy award’s winner Ben Kingsley starrer GANDHI on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The movie was shown in the OP JAIN Auditorium, Civil Department on 29th of September starting from 6.00 pm. Around 150 students turned up to watch the movie. The program started with a brief note on Mahatma Gandhi’s greatness and how Einstein had described him as a man in flesh and blood ever walked on the face of this earth. Students were also informed that the documentary was directed by an English man and it has won several awards and critic's acclaim. This was followed by the screening of the movie.

           The movie started with Gandhi's experience of being removed from the first class coach despite of having a ticket just because he was not white. This provoked him to fight against injustice. The movie vividly described Indian struggle for independence and Gandhi's critical role in it. The audience was watching the movie keenly and was applauding frequently in support of Gandhi. 

              The movie ended with Mahatma Gandhi's lines- "Whenever you are in despair, remember that always throughout the history the way of love and truth has won.” Students were overwhelmed with the experience and clapped heavily at the end. They found the movie a real masterpiece and were over flowing with patriotism and respect for the nation and Gandhi.

Guest Lecture on 'How to be successful in life'

         Carrying on with its tradition of helping people, NSS IIT-Roorkee organized a guest lecture by Dr. G.S. Randhawa on ‘How to be Successful in Life’ on 27th September, 2011 in Bose Auditorium, Physics Department, IIT-Roorkee.

           Dr. Randhawa has been serving in the field of education for the past 37 years and is currently working as senior professor in the Department of Biotechnology, IIT-R for the past 4 years. With his extraordinary lecture the maestro mesmerized the audience, which comprised of more than 100 students. He illuminated various aspects of success showing the students a new facet of success-a new direction, and left a burning desire in the heart of every listener to be successful. He discussed the basic pillars of success-desire, goal orientation, right direction, mentor and attitude. The lecture was complete with details of every aspect followed by live examples of success stories of people inspired by Dr. Randhawa’s words.

            As all good things come to an end so did this wonderful event. Dr. Randhawa was presented with a memento by Vihan Jain, Secretary, NSS IITR. The lecture left everyone spellbound and with a new vision of their lives.

Guest Lecture on “PALE BLUE DOT- ENVIRONMENT SUSTAINABILITY”

               Knowing the present condition of the environment and the immense need for creating awareness among the youth, NSS IITR organized a guest lecture by Mrs. Nita Ganguly, TCP India presenter, on "Pale Blue Dot-Environment Sustainability” on 25th September 2011 during 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm at DOMS .The response was great as many enthusiastic students came to attend the lecture. Mrs. Ganguly raised several issues regarding environmental changes and the role we can play in protecting it. The discussion started with several adverse impacts of environmental damage being caused by humans and the three herculean factors responsible for this scenario-population growth, scientific evolution and our indifferent attitude were pointed out.

                We all know, that to make a difference, it is necessary to begin now, and even if we take small steps, it is these small steps that will ultimately bring about a change. To inspire the students on these lines, Mrs. Ganguly, informed the audience about several measures to mitigate this hazard and encouraged students by giving instances of people who brought huge changes through their individual efforts. She said that it is important to "have the courage to speak up against the wrong." A brief description about SANSKRITI 350-an initiative by the students of SANSKRITI SCHOOL,NEW DELHI to promote sustainable environment development was added. The presentation ended with the tag line "BE THE CHANGE".

                  Dr. Smita Jha appreciated the lecture and said that it reminded her of Wordsworth's lines 'What man has made of man.’ Mrs. Ganguly needs to be applauded for the way she influenced the crowd, as everyone was very impressed by her confidence and presentation.

                 She actually made the students realise, how believing in something can help you to lead your country towards a better and safer environment. Students found the lecture informative, interactive and interesting. Most of them had made up their minds to work as the next generation of green warriors and play their role in saving THE PLANET EARTH.

After ages...

              Long time since this page saw any activity, but no other day and no other moment could have been better than this day and this time to revive this log. As is the tradition of the world, you come and then, you have to go, making way for fresh faces, bright, shiny and dreamy eyes, bringing in their revolutionary thoughts to make an impact on the society with this new given responsibility and role. Everyone special, everyone talented and everyone who has a spirit to do something for others and their betterment. Mind it this is never charity that I am talking about, we're not in that business, no no, we don't pity people, instead we give them the confidence and faith to stand up and make their own place in this big world.I like the word EMPOWERMENT.

             Coming back to the agenda, the NSS Team for 2011-2012 is already made, and surprisingly enough, they're already going gung-ho about their duties and responsibilities, sometimes these kids never stop amazing me. NavKalapana Event

PRERNA-NSS organized a presentation event "NAVKALPANA" based on the theme "Innovative Ways of Teaching".
Abstract form the event:

There are three key topics your ideas must revolve around-

• Curriculum: Besides teaching PCM, we can teach many other things like sudoku, word puzzles , improve their G.K., etc.

• Methodology: New improved methods of teaching shall be given which are interactive and pristine.

• Class Structure: Currently we are following one to one teaching. You may give new rational ideas to improve the quality of teaching.

Note while presenting your abstract:

• Font face shall be TIMES NEW ROMAN with font size 11.

• Your submission will be in PDF/MS WORD form. Word limit for abstract is 300 words.

• It is expected that you will touch above given points. Brainwaves vis-a-vis other fields are also welcome.

• To check feasibility I will strongly encourage you to visit Prerna classes being held in Metallurgy Department of IIT Roorkee. If it is not possible for you, see photographs of classes in gallery.
